Beach days used to feel like a whole production—overpacking, forgetting things, or bringing way more than I actually needed.
Now, I keep it simple.
Whether I’m going alone or meeting a couple friends, I’ve figured out exactly what makes a beach day feel relaxed instead of chaotic. These are the things I bring every time, the ones that actually get used and make the whole day better.

The vibe: simple, calm, and actually enjoyable
I’m not packing for a big group or planning a full day of activities.
This is more of a sit-in-a-chair, read-a-book, sip-something-cold, and relax-as-much-as-possible kind of beach day.
And everything I bring supports that.
If you want to keep things simple but still feel comfortable and put together, this is exactly what I bring.
Everything I bring for a simple, stress-free beach day:
What I Wear
Sunscreen
I always intend to apply sunscreen before I put on my suit… but realistically, I often forget. Either way, I make sure it’s on before I make the trek through the sand.
Sunglasses
I always bring a pair that’s comfortable enough to wear all day and doesn’t slide down my face every five minutes. Bonus if they’re neutral so they go with everything.
Flip Flops
Easy on, easy off.
Where I live (and honestly most beaches), the sand turns into actual lava by mid-morning, so these are a must.
I always go for something comfortable enough to walk in but simple enough that I don’t care if they get sandy.
Swimsuit + Easy Cover-Up
I keep this really low effort.
A simple suit and a lightweight cover-up that I can throw on without thinking. It makes walking to and from the beach feel a little more put together.
Hat or Visor
I wear it for comfort but they can be stylish too.
It keeps the sun off my face, helps with the heat, and just makes everything feel more manageable.

What I Carry
Beach Chair
This is what makes it a relaxing day.
I’ve learned that if I’m not comfortable, I won’t stay long. A chair keeps me off the sand, gives me back support, and just makes the whole experience better.
Bonus if it has a strap so it’s easy to carry.
Umbrella
Game changer.
Even if I’m not staying all day, having shade makes such a difference. It’s the difference between actually relaxing and constantly feeling overheated. I like one that stays in place in the wind.
I always look for one that’s lightweight and easy to carry.
Cooler
Nothing fancy, just enough space for a couple cold beverages and a snack. I prefer something simple with a strap so it doesn’t feel bulky.
A Good Tote Bag
Everything goes in here, so it needs to be big enough for what I need but also be easy to carry. And it MUST be easy to get the sand out, as you know, that stuff gets everywhere.

What Goes in the Tote
Kindle or a Good Book
This is the whole point of my beach day.
I usually bring my Kindle so I don’t have to think about which book to pack (and I can switch if I’m not in the mood), but sometimes I’ll bring a physical book if I’m really into something.
Towel
Simple, but I like one that’s big enough to stretch out on, wrap up in if I get chilly, or fold into a pillow if needed. And I want it to be pretty.
Insulated Cup
Hydration, hydration, hydration. It’s essential for a pleasant day in the sun.
I always bring an insulated cup (already full and frosty).
Whether it’s water, something iced, or a little beach treat, having a cold drink that actually stays cold is one of those small things that makes the day feel better.
More Sunscreen
I’m big on sunscreen, not just putting it on once, but actually reapplying. I’ve learned the hard way (multiple times) it can mean the difference between a relaxing beach day and a very uncomfortable night.

Why this works (and why I stick to it)
I’ve realized that the worst part of a beach day isn’t the beach, it’s the walk there and back.
There’s nothing I hate more than having my arms loaded down with stuff, trying to juggle everything while the walk from the car (or house) somehow feels way longer than it should. And once the sand heats up and turns into lava, it’s even worse.
At the same time, I don’t want to skip the things that actually make the day comfortable.
So instead of bringing less, I bring smarter.
I look for things that are easy to carry, items with straps, pieces that fold or stack together, and anything that doesn’t feel like I’m carrying everything I own just to sit down for a couple hours.
That way I still have everything I need, but getting there (and back) doesn’t feel like a workout.
That’s why things like a good chair, an easy-to-carry umbrella, and a simple cooler matter more than you’d think – they’re only helpful if they’re easy to bring with you.
Final Thoughts
A good beach day doesn’t come from bringing everything.
It comes from bringing the right things that work for you, not making you work.
For me, that looks like something to sit on, something to read, something cold to drink, and just enough comfort to stay awhile.
And that’s bliss.
