I work a pretty typical Monday–Friday, 9–5 schedule, and I’ve found that if I don’t take a little time to reset over the weekend, the week ahead can feel chaotic before it even starts.

Over time, I’ve settled into a routine that feels simple and realistic—not something that takes hours all at once, but something I can break up over the weekend depending on what I have going on.
If you’re looking for a simpler way to unwind, I shared more about that in My Self-care Sunday Reset.
It’s not perfect, and it doesn’t happen the exact same way every week, but it helps me feel calmer, more prepared, and a little more like I have things together.
Saturday: A Simple House Refresh + Errands
If my weekend allows, I like to use part of Saturday to reset my space and take care of anything I need to do outside the house.
At home, this is more of a house refresh than a deep clean:
- Dishes caught up and put away
- Counters cleared and wiped down
- A quick declutter of anything that’s piled up
- Vacuuming to make everything feel fresh
It’s just enough to bring everything back to baseline so the house feels calm and manageable again.
Errands + Groceries
Saturday is also when I typically run errands.
For groceries, I try to make things as easy and efficient as possible. A lot of the time, I’ll place an order ahead of time and either pick it up or have it delivered
Having someone else shop for me does two things:
- It frees up time so I can focus on other things
- It helps me stay on budget since I can see the total with each item I add
I usually order through Walmart because they tend to be more budget-friendly and have a wide selection, and their pickup option is free. It’s not necessarily my favorite store, but this makes it practical, saves time, and makes it much easier to stay on track without overbuying.
Then, when I’m already out running errands, I’ll pick up things like fresh produce from a farmer’s market or another store with good produce options, depending on what part of town I’m in that day.
This whole process keeps Saturday productive without feeling overwhelming, and it sets me up so Sunday can feel a little slower and more focused on resetting for the week. I’ve found that when my suroundings are less chaotic, I am better able to relax.
Sunday: Laundry + Me
Sunday is slower and a little more focused on both resetting for the week and taking care of myself.
Laundry First
I usually do at least three loads:
- Sheets/towels (its just me and my husband so this is just one load)
- Light clothing
- Dark clothing
Laundry is slow, that’s actually why I like doing it on Sundays. It doesn’t require a lot of effort, I just set timers on my phone so I don’t forget to switch things over, and it runs in the background while I do other things.
There’s something about starting the week with clean sheets, fresh towels, and a full closet that makes everything feel easier.

A Personal Reset
Once laundry is going, I shift into my personal reset.
Depending on how much time I have, I’ll do as much of an “everything shower” as I can, I keep my routine simple and stick to the products that actually make a difference for me:
- Shampoo and conditioning
- Shaving and grooming
- Full skincare
- A little extra time to slow down, breathe and reclaim that main character mindset

It doesn’t have to be a full, perfect routine every time, just enough to feel clean, refreshed, and prepared for the week ahead.
A Slow, Feel-Good Activity
I try to leave space for something that feels calm and unhurried.
That might look like:
- A short yoga session
- A walk with my dog Charlie
- Sitting down with a book
- Writing for a bit
- A movie with my husband
Nothing intense or overly productive, just something that helps me ease into the week instead of rushing straight into it.

A Quick Mental Reset
Before the weekend ends, I like to take a few minutes to get organized mentally.
I keep it simple:
- Check my calendar for the week
- Make a short, realistic to-do list
- Note anything important coming up
I don’t plan everything, I just want to avoid surprises and feel like I have a general handle on what’s ahead.
Keeping It Flexible
The biggest thing I’ve learned is that this routine works because it’s flexible.
Some weekends I do all of it.
Some weekends I only get to part of it.
But even doing a little bit helps me:
- feel less overwhelmed
- feel more prepared
- and start Monday without that “already behind” feeling
A Few Things That Help My Reset Feel Easier
Over time, I’ve found a few simple things that make this routine feel a little more enjoyable:
- My go-to cozy set
- A few skincare staples I actually use
- A good book I can get lost in
- A candle or something that makes the space feel calm
Final Thoughts
This isn’t about having a perfect routine or doing everything “right.”
It’s just about creating a small reset point between one week and the next.
Breaking it up between Saturday and Sunday makes it feel manageable, and it turns something that could feel like a chore into something that actually helps me slow down a little.
And honestly, that’s what makes the biggest difference.
