If you’re here looking for your next book boyfriend—you’re in the right place. These are some of my favorite romances with characters I still think about long after finishing the book.

There are a lot of romance novels out there.
Some are good. Some are fine. And then there are the ones that completely pull you in. The ones you keep thinking about long after you finish them.
These are those books for me.
They’re the ones I couldn’t put down, the ones I recommend without hesitation, and the ones that made me fall even more in love with the romance genre.

What I Look for in a Romance novel
Before I get into the list, this is my general vibe:
- Strong chemistry (this is non-negotiable)
- Relatable characters I actually care about
- A story that pulls me in quickly
- And let’s be honest… a little spice (or a lot)
And just as important, I want a book that’s actually well written.
I want to be able to get lost in the story without being pulled out of it by awkward phrasing or constant errors. When the writing is strong, everything else just works better.
My Favorite Romance Reads
I tend to gravitate toward a few specific types of romance, and these are the ones I keep coming back to:
Small Town + Spicy
These are my comfort reads.
There’s something about a small town setting that just works; familiar characters, a sense of community, and stories that feel a little more grounded, even when the chemistry isn’t.
I love when the town itself feels like a character, when everyone knows everyone, and when there’s just enough humor mixed in with the romance to keep things light and fun.
Here are a few I could read over an over:
- The Story of My Life by Lucy Score
- The Highland Fling by Meghan Quinn
- The Copper-Smith Farmhouse by Devney Perry
These are the books I reach for when I want something easy to get into, a little funny, and still very much worth the read.

Rom-Com
These are the books that make me laugh out loud and still deliver on the romance.
For me, a good rom-com needs strong banter, good timing, and characters that feel real enough that the humor doesn’t feel forced. I want the kind of dialogue that makes you stop and reread a line because it’s just that good.
Here are a few I dare you to read through without laughing:
- The Dead Guy Next Door by Lucy Score
- Pucked by Helena Hunting
- Shopping For A Billionaire by Julia Kent
They’re light, entertaining, and perfect when I want something that doesn’t feel heavy but still pulls me in.

Intense Billionaire Romance
These are the ones I can’t put down.
They’re usually a little more dramatic, a little more intense, and definitely high on chemistry. The stakes feel bigger, the emotions run stronger, and the relationships tend to pull you in fast.
When they’re done well, they’re completely addictive. The kind of books where you keep saying “just one more chapter” and suddenly it’s way too late.
Here are some of my favorites:
- The Crossfire Series by Sylvia Day
- A Billionaire In Disguise by Blair Babylon
- The Stark Trilogy by J. Kenner – Start with Release Me

Alien Romance
This is where I go when I want to completely escape.
Different worlds, unfamiliar settings, and relationships that develop in ways you don’t always expect. There’s something about stepping outside reality that makes the connection between characters feel even more intense.
Here are some I’ve read multiple times:
- Dark Planet Warriors by Anna Carven
- Choosing Theo by Victoria Aveline
- Mia & Korum (The Complete Krinar Chronicles Trilogy) by Anna Zaires
- Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon
It’s not everyone’s first choice, but once you find a good one, it’s hard not to keep going.

Historical Romance
This used to be one of my favorite genres.
I’ve always loved how immersive historical romance can be; the slower build, the tension, and the way the setting shapes everything about the story.
I really enjoyed these:
- A Kingdom Of Dream by Judith McNaught
- The Secret by Julie Garwood
- A Knight In Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux
- Educating Caroline by Meg Cabot
That said, I haven’t picked up a new one in a while.
I tend to rely on a few go-to authors, and many of the ones I loved haven’t released anything new in this genre recently. I also haven’t come across many newer authors that have pulled me in enough to give them a try.
But I’m always open to it.
If you have a favorite historical romance author you love (especially one who writes immersive, well-written stories), I would genuinely love recommendations. Honestly, I’m always looking for great authors in any genre.

Romantic Suspense
These are the ones that keep me on edge in the best way.
I love a romance that gives me more than just the relationship—something with a little danger, a little mystery, and just enough tension to make it impossible to stop reading. When it’s done well, you’re just as invested in what’s going to happen as you are in who’s going to end up together.
These tend to pull me in fast and keep me there. The kind of books where something is always about to happen, and you can feel it building the entire time.
Here are a few that completely hooked me:
- Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard
- Murder List by Julie Garwood
- In The Shadows Series by PT Michell – Start with Mr. Black
These are the ones I reach for when I want something a little more intense, a little more suspenseful, but still centered around a strong romance.

Why I Love Romance (and keep coming back to it)
There’s something about a good romance that just works.
It’s the mix of:
- emotional connection
- character growth
- and the payoff at the end
It’s one of the few genres where you know how it ends but you still want to go along for the ride.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for books you can actually get into, these are a great place to start.
Whether you want something light and funny or something you can’t put down, there’s something here that will pull you in and keep you reading.
