Summer skincare used to feel like a lot. Too many products, too many steps, and honestly, too much effort for hot, busy days.
Now, I keep it simple. And my skin is actually better because of it.
I focus on a few easy routines I can actually stick to: a quick morning routine, a low-effort nighttime reset, and a simple plan for when my skin decides to act up.

My Morning Skincare Routine
Mornings are all about keeping things light and easy.
I don’t want anything heavy, and I definitely don’t want to spend a ton of time getting ready when it’s already warm out.
Here’s what I actually do:
- Cleanse (or just rinse, depending on how my skin feels)
- Lightweight moisturizer with SPF (always). I’ve been using the Aveeno Face Moisturizer with SPF 30.
That’s it.
If I’m going to be outside, I’ll throw sunscreen in my bag so I can reapply without thinking about it.
When I’m Spending Time Outside
This is where summer skincare actually matters most.
If I’m going to be outside for more than a quick walk, I keep it simple but intentional:
I always start with SPF as part of my morning routine, and I make sure to reapply if I’m out for a while. I usually just throw it in my bag so I don’t have to think about it later.
A hat or sunglasses also make a bigger difference than I used to realize, especially when I’m out in direct sun.
If I do end up getting a little too much sun, I don’t overcomplicate it. I focus on:
hydration
gentle products
and giving my skin time to calm down
Something soothing (like aloe or a simple moisturizer) and drinking more water usually helps my skin recover pretty quickly.
Like everything else, I’ve found that keeping it simple works better than trying to fix everything at once.

My Night Routine (Simple Reset)
At night, I focus on just getting everything off my skin and resetting for the next day.
Especially in the summer when there’s sunscreen, sweat, and everything else.
Here’s what that looks like:
- Gentle cleanser. I keep coming back to CeraVe Cream Wash
- Hyaluronic acid or retinol serum (depending on the day of the week). I use CeraVe for these too.
- Lightweight moisturizer like this Aveeno night cream
Nothing complicated, just consistent.
What I Do When I Get a Blemish
This was always the most confusing part for me, but it’s also what made the biggest difference.
Now, I keep it really simple. After I clean my face:
- I use Differin on blemishes (worth the price and a little goes a long way)
- If I have any scabs or healing spots, I use Aquaphor to help them heal faster (again, a little goes a long way. I don’t use it all over, just on healing spots)
- I focus on hydration and moisture to keep my skin balanced
- I leave it alone (still the hardest part)
- And I try not to pile on a bunch of extra products
I’ve found that doing less usually works better than trying everything at once.
What actually made a difference for me
I stopped trying to follow complicated routines and started focusing on what I’d actually stick to.
For me, that means:
- keeping things light
- keeping things simple
- and being consistent instead of perfect
That’s what makes the biggest difference. It’s one of those small routines that makes me feel more put together without adding more to my day.

Final Thoughts
Summer skincare doesn’t need to be complicated.
It just needs to work for you.
For me, that’s a simple morning routine, a quick nighttime reset, and not overthinking breakouts when they happen.
