My Self-Care Sunday Reset

How I unwind, recharge, and reconnect with myself

By the time Sunday rolls around, I can feel it. I need a reset.

But I’ve realized something over time… not all self-care looks the same.

Sometimes you need one kind. Sometimes you need something completely different.

The Two Types of Self-Care I Come Back To

For me, it usually falls into two categories:

Spirit Self-Care

This is when I need to get out of my head and reconnect with the world a little.

It might look like:

  • a walk around the neighborhood
  • a hike on a trail
  • running errands or shopping with a friend
  • even a day date with someone special

It’s less about what I’m doing and more about the shift.

Just a reminder that there’s more out there than my to-do list and daily routine.

Body Self-Care

Other times, I need the opposite.

Quiet. Calm. Stillness.

This is when I stay in and take care of myself in a more physical, grounded way:

  • an everything shower
  • a long bath
  • full skincare
  • cozy time at home

This is the kind of reset that slows everything down.

👉 If I’m staying in, these are some of my go-to self-care ideas

What Self-Care Sunday Usually Looks Like for Me

I’m definitely more of an introvert these days.

After being around people all week, going out can feel like more energy than I want to give. What I really need is quiet, calm time at home to recharge.

So my Sundays usually look like this:

I let myself sleep in if I want to.

No alarms. No rushing.

Then I throw on something comfortable, start a load of laundry (usually my sheets and linens) and take my dog for a walk around the neighborhood.

That alone starts to shift my mindset.

The Everything Shower Refresh (or a deep soak)

Then comes my favorite part: the everything shower.

You probably already know what that is, but for me it means:

  • full hair routine (shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner)
  • exfoliating
  • Shaving (everything I didn’t make time for during the busy week)
  • anything that makes me feel taken care of (I like using shower bombs for the aromatherapy—they make it feel a little more like a spa moment)

It’s less about the routine and more about the feeling of slowing down and actually taking my time.

And one small thing that makes a big difference?

A fresh, fluffy towel.

It sounds simple, but it really does change the whole experience.

After the Refresh

After that, I put on something that matches my mood.

Soft, comfortable, easy.

And then I do something calm.

Sometimes that looks like:

  • cooking or baking something a little more intentional
  • Reading (usually something light and easy. Find some of my favorite romance reads here)
  • bingeing a comfort show or movie
  • painting my nails
  • or even working on my own romance ideas

(I’ve learned I love creating storylines… even if I don’t always finish writing them.)

Why This Works for Me

Because it’s not about doing everything.

It’s about doing what I need that day.

Some Sundays I need to get out and reset my energy. Some Sundays I need to stay in and recharge.

Either way, it comes back to the same thing:

Taking time to reconnect with the life I work so hard for all week – myself, my space, and the people I care about.

My Self-Care Sunday Favorites

These are the kinds of things I actually reach for during my reset:

  • skincare that keeps things simple and hydrated (find my favorite skincare here)
    • My dermatologist suggested CeraVe products, and I’ve stuck with them ever since. They keep my skin soft, smooth and hydrated.
  • haircare that makes my routine feel like a treat (see my favorite hair items here)
    • No matter your hair type, a Wet Brush is a must. This brush has been a game changer for my half wavy, half curly hair. I also like to use a soft scrunchy if I need to keep it out of my face.
  • cozy loungewear (the softer, the better)
  • candles or little comfort items
  • a good romance novel I can get lost in (try one of my favorites)
    • I’m always up for getting lost in a good story.

Final Thoughts

Self-care doesn’t have to look one specific way.

Sometimes it’s getting out into the world. Sometimes it’s staying in and slowing down.

But either way, giving yourself the space to:

  • pause
  • reset
  • and come back to yourself

is always worth it.
